Former Liverpool and Lazio midfielder Lucas Leiva has announced his retirement from professional football in 2022. The Brazilian, who made a name for himself at Anfield, was forced to hang up his boots after being diagnosed with a heart condition.

Leiva, who began his career at Grêmio, joined Liverpool in 2007 and quickly became a fan favourite. His tenacious tackling, excellent passing range, and ability to read the game made him an integral part of the Reds' midfield for over a decade.

During his time at Anfield, Leiva won the League Cup, FA Cup, and UEFA Europa League. His performances for Liverpool earned him a reputation as one of the Premier League's most reliable and consistent midfielders.

After leaving Liverpool in 2017, Lucas Leiva spent five seasons at Lazio before returning to his boyhood club, Grêmio, in 2022. However, his time in Brazil was cut short due to his heart condition.

Since retiring, Leiva has established a football agency, where he provides consultancy services to aspiring footballers. The Brazilian has used his vast experience in the game to help young players navigate the complexities of the modern football industry.
