Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that defender Joe Gomez will be sidelined for an extended period after suffering a hamstring injury during the 5-0 win over West Ham United. The injury will force Slot to shuffle his defensive options as the Reds prepare to face a tough test against Manchester United at Anfield.
Gomez was forced off the pitch in the first half of the match against West Ham, and subsequent scans have revealed the extent of the injury. Slot has indicated that the English defender will require significant time to recover fully, and that rushing him back into action would be a risk to both the player and the team.
"It's a real shame to lose Joe," Slot said. "He's a key player for us and has been in excellent form this season. We'll miss his leadership and experience at the back. However, the most important thing is that he gets the treatment he needs and comes back stronger."
The absence of Gomez is a significant blow to Liverpool, who have already been dealing with a number of injury problems in their defense. Ibrahima Konate is also sidelined with a knee injury, leaving Slot with limited options at the heart of his defense.
