What is Konaté's injury and when will he be back in action?

French centre-back's misfortune

French centre-back's misfortune

When it seemed that the injury situation at Liverpool would not have much of an effect on the start of the season, with only the Spaniards Thiago Alcántara and Stefan Bajcetic recovering, for this third week of competition things seem to be different with the loss of Luis Diaz and now also of Ibrahima Konate, a defender who apparently only has a knock which will not take long to heal.

While the loss of Lucho Diaz can easily be made up for with the addition of Cody Gakpo who is also in a good footballing moment, as far as the defence is concerned, coach Jürgen Klopp is currently having some complications in finding the ideal replacement for the Frenchman, having to decide between having to place Joe Gomez or Joel Matip in his place.

At the moment only the possibility of a serious injury to the French centre-back has been ruled out, giving an approximate diagnosis of one week for him to return to action, with Konate returning to the centre of defence on Sunday 3 September against Aston Villa to partner captain Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool's defensive shortcomings

Both pre-season and these first two Premier League games have made it clear to the Reds boss that his defensive sector needs a lot of work to be able to keep up with the rest of the squad. Even if people trust more in Joe Gomez this game against Newcastle, the ideal thing for the German boss would be to bring in one last reinforcement in this area.
