There have been a number of changes within the Liverpool squad this summer

Many changes and many departures have taken place in Liverpool this summer, which have caused Jürgen Klopp to restructure the squad's foundations. One of the most important departures, especially in terms of leadership, was that of James Milner, who for years was one of the captains of the club during the most recent golden era of our team.

Since the end of the previous season it was announced that Milner would be one of the midfielders who would leave the club as a free agent, since the priority of Jürgen Klopp and the Anfield board would be to renew the squad, for which they would release the old stars of the team to give priority to the arrival of young players who could make the generational change that Klopp has been looking for.

However, in addition to the sporting aspect, James Milner was one of the great leaders of the team within the dressing room, a player highly respected and valued by the rest of his teammates. His absence and that of Jordan Henderson, have led the German tactician to choose the new captains of the club and Virgil van Dijk has been elected as the first captain, while Trent-Alexander Arnold is now the new vice-captain. However, Alexander-Arnold knows it won't be easy to take the baton from Milner and this is what he had to say about it.

Alexander-Arnold's words about James Milner

The young player and Liverpool star, Trent Alexander-Arnold assured that losing James Milner is not something you can directly replace and that it will take numerous people to do it. "We need to make sure that the way he kept driving us forward is replaced. I am self-aware. I know I will never be a James Milner. I will never be that type of leader but the leadership qualities I do have, I need to show and they need to be seen and heard and used in a way that is effective for the team. I need to keep pushing forward to try to achieve the things I want to achieve," he said.
