Liverpool clinched the first title of the English season by dominating Manchester City 3-1 in Leicester. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Uruguay's Darwin Nunez scored for the Reds.
Julian Alvarez had his first encounter with VAR in England when he scored Manchester City's equaliser in a 1-1 draw, but as he scored, the VAR indicated that Foden was in a legal position and the goal should have been awarded and while Manchester City fans screamed in the stands and the players ran around in joy, Alvarez was at a loss as to what to do.
The official broadcast caught him just as the Spanish coach grabbed him by the face to ask for concentration and continued to order him around, confused at being prevented from celebrating. When he returned to the centre of the pitch, his team-mates embraced him and one of the most effusive was Erling Haaland.
After Nunez's header was saved by the Manchester City defender's hand, Mohamed Salah's penalty was masterfully taken and then Nunez made it 3-1 with a thumping header after a double header inside the box.
Although VAR always generates controversy, this time both decisions were correct, following a review of the play. Meanwhile, England's FA is investigating the use of flares and pyrotechnics at the match, as a warning to Liverpool fans who used such items inside the Leicester ground.
