Atlético de Madrid is experiencing one of the best sporting moments of recent years. The red-and-whites have 11 consecutive wins and will play for the top spot this Saturday against Barcelona, with whom they are tied on points. Simeone knows that the squad has improved a lot compared to last season, but he continues to ask for more reinforcements.
According to reports in recent days, the Argentine coach wants two new signings for the winter market. The sports management would manage a list of four or five players for each position, and they will try to improve their squad for the end of the season. However, it is not all about the winter market, as a player who was very popular could leave his team in the summer.
Losing prominence at Liverpool
Darwin Núñez arrived as a galactic signing at Liverpool two seasons ago, from the Portuguese side Benfica. The Uruguayan forward was one of the most sought-after forwards on the market, but it was the English club that acquired his services. They paid 85 million euros for him, a sum that would be a true world star, placing part of the club's future on Darwin.
Since his arrival, he has experienced ups and downs, periods in which he scored several goals and others in which he failed in every way. With the arrival of Arne Slot, the striker was expected to bring out his best version, but the reality is being the opposite. As the days go by, he is seeing his minutes decrease and he is no longer an undisputed starter.
Darwin Núñez's style of play is very Simeone, a strong centre forward, very quick in space and with a good header. Atlético de Madrid already showed interest in him when he played for Almería, but they did not decide to go for his signing. Finally, he ended up going to Portugal and later to England, for an amount of money that the red-and-white club could not afford.
Now, if his situation continues to get worse every day, it is not at all out of the question that he himself will explore the options that are on the market. Luis Suárez admitted that he had recommended his signing to Barcelona and Atleti, but they did not listen to him. Now, the option could be reopened for Simeone to try to convince one of his favourite strikers.
