England beat Iran 6-2, but Liverpool players were not involved

England humbled Iran at the start of the World Cup in Qatar by a 6-2 scoreline to take an important step towards qualifying for the last 16. But there are two more group games to go against the United States and Wales. But most striking was the absence of Liverpool's Trent Alexander Arnold.

With England's squad featuring a host of stars, the majority of whom come directly from the Premier League, it is difficult to have a starting eleven without it generating some controversy because of those who have been left on the bench, a situation which happened in this game against Iran when the tactician preferred to use Kieran Trippier on the right wing and not Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The role Trent Alexander Arnold should play against Iran

Perhaps that area on the right in defence was the most questioned position due to the qualities and decadence of both players during the 90 minutes of the game, winning at first with Trippier that confidence of being a more solid block that will not offer many spaces to the opponent, and although the offensive power may be diminished without the presence of TAA, Gareth trusts that Saka, Kane and Sterling will solve the game.

England's midfield also dispensed with the creative qualities that Jordan Henderson can offer, with the British coach opting for a very attacking and fast midfield by prioritising the starting line-up of Mason Mount, Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham, three elements that work spectacularly well to circulate the ball without much hindrance, gaining a lot of presence in the attacking section.

Southgate prefers Tripper

According to reports in The Sun, the reality of why Gareth Southgate did not field Trent Alexander Arnold was because he prefers the defensive solidity of Kieran Tripper, even though he does not have the attacking qualities of the Liverpool full-back. This will result in TAA seeing little action during the World Cup.
