The Premier League accuses Manchester City of breaking financial rules 100 times

The Premier League accuses Manchester City of breaking financial rules 100 times from 2009 to 2018. If found guilty, the club could face all sorts of sanctions, including fines and points deductions. Inflated and artificial sponsorship income, hidden payments to players and coaches and no intention to provide financial information on contracts to the Premier League.

In 2020, City were banned from European football competitions for two seasons for "serious infringements" of club licensing and FFP regulations. The ban was later overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), although the body ruled that City had failed to cooperate with UEFA authorities and an original fine of €30 million (US$34 million) was reduced to €10 million (US$11.3 million).

It should be remembered that Manchester City have had an even rivalry with Liverpool in recent years. It has been just three Premier League titles that they have beaten the Reds by the narrowest of margins. The first was in the 2013-2014 season. Then in 2017-2018 and the most recent was in 2021-2022.

Three league titles for Liverpool

If the FA finds Manchester City guilty of these cheats and if there were sporting justice, Liverpool would have to be declared League champions in those three seasons. The Reds were able to compete in the face of an unfair and cheating financial strategy on the part of the Citizens.
