Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has expressed his desire for teammate Mohamed Salah to sign a new contract at Anfield. The Dutch international, who has become a key player under manager Arne Slot, believes Salah is a vital part of the team and has urged the club to do everything possible to keep him at the club.
In a recent interview, Gakpo praised Salah's impact on the team, saying, "It's truly special what we're all witnessing. The amount of goals he scores, but also the assists he gives, the way he plays the game, how he puts other attacking players or midfielders like me in a position to score and be dangerous is top level. I hope for us and for him that he can continue to do that for a long time. We are very lucky..."
Gakpo, who joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven earlier this year, has formed a strong partnership with Salah on the pitch. The duo have combined to create numerous chances for the Reds, and their understanding of each other's game has been evident in their performances.
Salah's contract with Liverpool is set to expire in the summer of 2025, and there has been speculation about his future. The Egyptian forward has been linked with a move away from Anfield, but Gakpo is hoping that he will remain at the club.
"I'm really enjoying every minute here," Gakpo added. "It's been a fantastic two years for me. Obviously a lot of things happened - a lot of good moments, some not so good, but I learned a lot. I'm very happy to be here at the club and I hope to stay for many more years. I think we are in a good moment now as a team and I'm very happy to be able to contribute."
Salah's future at Liverpool remains uncertain, but Gakpo's comments will be music to the ears of Reds fans. The Egyptian forward has been one of the best players in the Premier League in recent years, and his departure would be a huge blow to the club.
