England's midfield was one of the most vulnerable parts of the 90 minutes

Throughout the first 45 minutes, the United States were a complete surprise team that showed all the shortcomings of their England counterparts at the moment, with the midfield surprisingly too vulnerable with the likes of Jude Bellingham and Mason Mount, both prospects to join Liverpool in the coming transfer window.

While Bellingham's Liverpool status is an issue that is being resolved at another table, surely everyone at Anfield was surprised by the poor performance of the Three Lions' midfielders, especially when Mount a few days ago had been a complete revelation against an Iran side that offered little resistance, the Blues' player finishing with a near perfect score in every category he played in.

It was not surprising that Mount were outplayed in some areas by their American opponents, as this team has among its ranks players of greater quality and experience that could obviously cause more complications for an England side that could never contain an American attacking block that was well orchestrated by Christian Pulisic, a player he knows well from training with Chelsea.

Although on this occasion the Stars and Stripes were far superior to their opponents, they were unable to capitalise on their obvious goalscoring opportunities, culminating in a goalless draw thanks to the good work of Harry Maguire, the Manchester United man saving a poor display from his teammates who could never contain, let alone offend, the United States goal, with both Mason and Bellingham registering very poor numbers in both areas.

The Americans' demand was surely appreciated by Jurgen Klopp on Merseyside, as the German tactician was able to rate Mason's positives and negatives in different situations throughout the 90 minutes, passing an easy test the other day against the Iranians and now getting a lot more complicated in this new stage against the Americans, keeping the Reds' interest in the midfielder as a complete unknown that his remaining displays will surely end up resolving.
