Despite having one of his best games of the month, it looks like Naby Keïta's days at Anfield are numbered

The embarrassing two-goal draw at home to Wolverhampton left plenty of lessons for Jürgen Klopp, who will have a long week to analyse where his side went wrong and where they can improve. The German manager knows there are some good things about this disaster, such as the individual performances of Liverpool's superstars, with Guinea's Naby Keïta standing out in an incredible way.

Indeed, to the surprise of many, the African had a decent game. His entry in the second half left an acceptable taste in Klopp's mouth, who decided to give him continuity after the medical clearance he received a few weeks ago and that made him travel to Dubai in the mini pre-season tour that took place after the break for the World Cup in Qatar. Since then Keïta has been on Klopp's radar giving him an average of an hour per game.

On this occasion and with a decent rating, Naby had an 81% accurate passing rate in midfield, helping the Reds to come out on top in the contest for the ball with the tackles and interceptions he made and laid off for his team-mates. The Guinea international's contract expires this year, with little chance of renewal, as injuries have dogged him throughout his time at Anfield, limiting his chances of proving his quality.

Keïta, who arrived on Merseyside in 2018 for 60 million euros and a four-season contract at the time, has outgrown the number 8 shirt of legend Stevie Gerrard, who even said at his presentation that he would honour the number, saying it was the most incredible thing for him. Keïta is an unreliable player, as his injury record includes back, rib, calf, pelvis, ankle, shin, hamstring and the more serious knee.

Naby Keita will not stay at Liverpool

Gambling on a renewal for the African is extremely risky given his injury record and the high salary he earns per year. If the Reds want to keep him they will have to offer him something in excess of the €7.23m he earns per year. For now the latest reports from England reveal that Keïta could be on the radar of a couple of clubs in France as an important opportunity for him to continue his professional career.
