Football is in mourning. One of the sport's greatest legends said goodbye to this life and did so with great sorrow, not only to his family but also to the millions of people who admired and respected him. O Rei passed away on Thursday 29 December 2022 at the age of 82 after being hospitalised with cancer in Sao Paulo, Brazil. After his departure, legends such as Liverpool's Kenny Dalglish remembered Pelé.

Dalglish made his professional debut with Celtic Glasgow, where, after dazzling all and sundry, he arrived in England to join Newcastle, who would later transfer him to Blackburn Rovers, which would be the precursor to his greatest love, Liverpool. Tributes were paid this weekend to Pelé, who underwent surgery to remove a colon tumour in September 2021, followed by a subsequent period of chemotherapy confirmed by his own family, who confirmed earlier this year that O Rei's health was beginning to deteriorate. In the latter part of the year, Pelé did not leave the hospital until his death. Rest in peace, one of the last legends of world football.
