Football is in mourning. One of the sport's greatest legends said goodbye to this life and did so with great sorrow, not only to his family but also to the millions of people who admired and respected him. O Rei passed away on Thursday 29 December 2022 at the age of 82 after being hospitalised with cancer in Sao Paulo, Brazil. After his departure, legends such as Liverpool's Kenny Dalglish remembered Pelé.
Former Scottish footballer and manager Kenny Dalglish is remembered at Anfield for his time as a player and manager, where he won 2 FA Cups (1985-86 and 1988-89), 2 consecutive Community Shields (1988-89 and 1989-90), 1 EFL Cup (2011-12) and of course, the important three Premier League titles he won (1985-86, 1987-88 and 1989-90). For this and more, he is an important legend on Merseyside, where he rubbed shoulders with the greats, with Pelé being a great friend of Dalglish.

Dalglish made his professional debut with Celtic Glasgow, where, after dazzling all and sundry, he arrived in England to join Newcastle, who would later transfer him to Blackburn Rovers, which would be the precursor to his greatest love, Liverpool. He would later begin his coaching career at these clubs, which once again opened the door to one of Scotland's footballing legends.
A couple of years ago it was Pele himself on his personal Twitter account who dedicated a tweet to Kenny Dalglish, congratulating him on his birthday and also for everything he did as a professional, both on the pitch and on the Reds' bench. "Happy birthday to Liverpool hero, Kenny Dalglish. I backed LFC to win the Premier League from the start. I still think they will do it," wrote the five-time World Cup-winning legend with Brazil.
Tributes were paid this weekend to Pelé, who underwent surgery to remove a colon tumour in September 2021, followed by a subsequent period of chemotherapy confirmed by his own family, who confirmed earlier this year that O Rei's health was beginning to deteriorate. In the latter part of the year, Pelé did not leave the hospital until his death. Rest in peace, one of the last legends of world football.
