Matheus Nunes, a midfielder for Wolves, is a player that Liverpool is considering signing in the summer, although the potential transaction is unusual, Nunes only transferred from Sporting to Wolves this summer, but according to the Telegraph, he had a deal with the Midlands club that allowed him to move up the Premier League once he had adjusted.
Although players may be enrolled for up to three clubs per campaign, they may only represent two, so the Reds would be unable to employ him this year. However, they appear to have committed to making a bid for him before 2023 or 2024, the potential for a £44 million ($53 million/€50 million) deal for Nunes makes it worthwhile to examine his performance to date in England.
When Wolves and their new manager Julen Lopetegui faced Manchester United last Saturday at Molineux, they lost 1-0 because of a Marcus Rashford strike in extra time, but Nunes stood out, Joao Moutinho was coupled with Rben Neves in this situation instead of their regular midfield two, allowing Nunes to show off his endearing adaptability.
Nunes was a key player in the game, coming in third place for touches (50) and completed passes in the Wolves lineup (31), he successfully dispersed the ball, finishing six of his eight long balls and finishing joint-first for passes into the final third (three). He managed to get the same number as José Sá and Neves, but he had the best accuracy.
When it came to taking defensive measures, Nunes was also quite competitive. He finished second on the squad in ball recoveries and had the most tackles (three), interceptions (two), and blocks (two) (six), he won seven of his duels overall (another team-high), and his record-breaking haul of three fouls drawn further shows that he was a problem for United.
