Liverpool manager Arne Slot has dismissed suggestions that interest from Real Madrid has had a negative impact on Trent Alexander-Arnold's recent performances.

Speaking after his side's 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Anfield, Slot defended the England international, who has been linked with a move to the Spanish giants. Despite facing criticism from some quarters for his display against United, the Dutch coach insisted that the Real Madrid speculation was not a factor.

What does Slot said?

"I don't believe in those things," Slot said. "I think nine out of ten people will say that it affected him, but I'm one of the ten that say I don't think it affected him. What affected him is that he had to play against Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, who are starters for Portugal. Great, great, great players.

"We have a fantastic player here with Diogo Jota, and he's not even playing for Portugal. So that shows you how much quality United have. It's tough to play against players of that quality."

Slot went on to praise Alexander-Arnold's overall contribution to the team, highlighting his importance to the side. "I think most of the games he's played for this club have been very good, but I can't believe it if people tell me that he's never played a bad game for this club before. That's probably happened before, and especially against quality players like United."

Next challenges

The Liverpool boss also addressed the challenges faced by his team in a game that was played in difficult weather conditions. "It's not easy to control if the opponent plays every ball into your last line. We had to do better on the two goals we conceded, but that's what every manager would say."

With Alexander-Arnold's future at Anfield the subject of much speculation, Slot's comments will come as a boost to Liverpool fans. The right-back has been an integral part of the team in recent years, and his continued development will be crucial to the club's success.
