It has been a year since Luis Díaz's move to Liverpool, the latest of the most high-profile Colombian transfers in recent years. On 30 January 2022, while he was with the Colombian national team, it was announced that Liverpool had bought the rights to the player. The total sum of money was 45 million euros. It has been years since the transfer of a Colombian player by a world elite team. The English club was interested in the player after his performances with Porto for three years.

On 10 July 2019, for a sum of seven million euros, Porto bought the Colombian, debuting the following month in the Champions League. His first goal on the old continent came on 13 August. As the games and seasons went by, the Colombian began to become a reference for the club and one of the main South American promises in Europe. He had several notable appearances, but the one that gave him the breakthrough to the elite came on 25 November 2021, in the match at Anfield against his future club Liverpool. For that edition of the Champions League, the Portuguese and English shared a group and on matchday five they met. Although the Reds came away with a two-nil win, the image of the match was Diaz's performance.

Fans were fascinated by the level of the Colombian, and as the days went by, they began to demonstrate on social networks and in subsequent matches with the message that Díaz should be signed in the winter transfer window. Likewise, the coach of the English team, Jurgen Klopp, highlighted the Colombian's game. With Porto, the striker made 125 appearances, 41 goals and 19 assists. The fans' wish was granted and in January 2022 the Colombian joined Liverpool, a club with which he has continued to excel, despite the injuries he has had. So far he has played 38 games, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists. He has also managed to win the League Cup, FA Cup and Community Shield. He has been characterised by his goals and contributions to Klopp's scheme.

Luis Diaz is expected to return soon

It is worth noting that, across the board, he has become a benchmark for the Colombia national team, with whom he has played since 2018 and has been part of the team in 36 games, contributing eight goals. His best moment -so far- has been in the Copa America 2021, in which he was awarded as the scorer of the tournament, best player in two matches and was part of the ideal team. For his numbers, titles and contribution to the club, after a year at Liverpool, the Colombian striker has more than fulfilled his potential and will continue to be a reference point for the Reds. Now he is expected to return to his best after the knee injury that kept him away from the field since last year.
