Following Wednesday's Carabao Cup victory, Liverpool made an announcement Fenway Sports Group has today announced that global sports investment firm Dynasty Equity has completed a strategic common equity minority investment in Liverpool FC, a deal for which, according to reports by several journalists, it will receive around $150 million. Liverpool got off on the right foot in England's Carabao Cup on Wednesday with a 3-1 win over Leicester City in a match that saw new Reds signing Dominik Szoboszlai score a wonder goal that stole the headlines. As usual, Liverpool had to come from behind once again after a Kasey McAteer goal (3′) made it the fourth game this season Liverpool have conceded an early goal.
However, a solitary goal from Cody Gakpo, who pivoted a ball, turned and scored at will, eventually paved the way for Szoboszlai to become the hero of the night. With Leicester defending with everything they had and looking to tie the game Liverpool began to struggle to get into the box and create chances, but Szoboszlai took advantage of this to use his best shot from outside the box. Receiving near the halfway line and with no-one in the way, Szoboszlai unleashed a stunning strike in the 70th minute that flew into the top corner of the goalkeeper's net, before going straight into the Anfield faithful's hands to celebrate.
The goal scored by Szoboszlai to make it 2-1 was not the only one, because near the end, in the 88′, the Portuguese Diogo Jota completed the scoring with a back-heeled goal, anticipating the home Leicester defenders. Liverpool are now ready for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup where they will face AFC Bournemouth who beat Stoke City 2-0 on Wednesday. “Our long-term commitment to Liverpool remains as strong as ever,” said FSG president Mike Gordon. “We have always said that if there is an investment partner that is right for Liverpool then we would pursue the opportunity to help ensure the club’s long-term financial resiliency and future growth. “We look forward to building upon the long-standing relationship with Dynasty to further strengthen the club’s financial position and sustain our ambitions for continued success on and off the pitch.”
While sed has stated that the money raised will be used to clean up the accounts that have been used for the redevelopment of Anfield, several journalists have also stated that the clean-up will free up resources to make signings. Jurgen Klopp has players he wants to sign in the summer and while Mbappe has been rumoured, he would be more interested in Brazilian midfielder Andre or Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapie.
