Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool were expecting to start the season better than they´re doing. It has been a series of events that have caused the Reds to not play well and getting less than the expected points. Among other reasons, they have had very bad luck with the number of injured in the squad.
For this same reason, the red team from the city of Liverpool hoped to make a star reinforcement this summer. Klopp really liked a specific defensive midfielder, in order to have one more option in his depleted line-up. However, the player did not want to join the club.
The player who publicly belittled Liverpool's interest on him
This player's injury could prolong Liverpool's poor form
His name is Denis Zakaria, a Swiss footballer who played in midfield for Juventus Turin. He is 25 years old, he is agile and very defensive, Klopp would have fit in his team, and that is why he asked the club's board to sign him. However, the Swiss had other plans in mind.
Just as Liverpool were approaching Juventus to talk about the possibility of signing Zakaria, unexpectedly, Chelsea joined in conversations with the player, and he ended up joining Tomas Tuchel´s squad instead.
As negotiations with the main signing collapsed, Liverpool looked for a similar player in the same team, and found Arthur Melo, former Barcelona player. Liverpool signed him instead, and the Brazilian could in fact make his debut tomorrow against Napoli, in their Champions League first game.
