It's no secret that our Liverpool is looking for its third reinforcement of the summer, as so far we have only been able to sign Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, who although they are very good players, are not enough to compensate for all the departures we have had since the transfer window opened.

That is why both Jürgen Klopp and the Anfield board are doing everything they can to secure at least one more reinforcement, a midfielder, before the Premier League opener against Chelsea in less than two weeks.

Liverpool's current urgency to sign new players stems from the end of last season, as after the failure to qualify for the next edition of the UEFA Champions League, Klopp set his sights on rebuilding the team's squad. However, the two departures that really threw the team off balance were those of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, as neither of their sales were budgeted for as both would have important roles in the team going into next season.

In addition to those two departures, in total Liverpool have had 18 other departures this summer, and the bad news is that they have not left as much money in the club's coffers as one would expect, as several of those players have left as free agents. That mistake could cost Liverpool dearly, as there are now two more players who could leave the club very soon without leaving a single penny behind as the club currently struggles to bring in new reinforcements.

The two players who could leave the team

As with Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita, there are two players who are not in Klopp's long-term plans and therefore there is no intention of offering them a contract extension, but there is also no indication that they will leave the club this summer so they will leave as free agents in a year's time. We are talking about Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara, who are both over 30 years of age and, according to reporter Theo Squires, will most likely leave the team in a year's time without leaving any profit for the team.
