After it was announced that Arthur Melo would be a new Liverpool player after his stay at Juventus, the Brazilian star decided which number will accompany him on his new journey in the Premier League, highlighting the 29, as a lucky digit in his career but not so for the history of the Reds, as well as being uncommon to see, whoever decides to wear it does not end up having the best performance on the pitch.

After having worn the iconic 8 at Barcelona, and the number 5 at Juventus, Arthur opted for a two-digit number that has meaning for him, with 29 being a special number as that was the first one he wore on his professional debut with Gremio. Contrary to Liverpool's superstition about that number, the Brazilian has it listed as an amulet that he wants to use in this new role.

Liverpool wanted him, but he chose joining Chelsea instead

Liverpool's number 29 shirt has not been worn by Liverpool in over three years, with the last holder of the shirt being striker Dominic Solanke. The current Bournemouth player picked up the jersey following his move from Chelsea in 2017, but disastrously, things didn't go well as he was only able to register one goal and one assist in a total of 27 appearances at Anfield, concluding with that poor effectiveness his sale to Bournemouth for 2019.

Before Solanke had a poor spell wearing the number 29 shirt, two years ago Fabio Borini was able to wear it on his back, with the Italian having the same fate as the now Bournemouth striker. Although the Fatih Karagumruk striker fared better in terms of goals, scoring on more occasions, his level did not convince the Reds and his departure was quickly sought, taking him to Sunderland and then Milan, and today he is with the number 16 shirt at a Turkish club.

They should not use the 29

A few years later, Hungarian youngster Krisztian Nemeth wore the number 29 on his back for the 2008 season. Although great things were expected of the Hungarian, he was never able to excel in his 3 years at the institution, leaving for home without any glory to play now at the age of thirty-three for Budapest.
