Klopp's new Liverpool, here's what will change for the game against Wolverhampton

Jurgen Klopp told a news conference ahead of Tuesday's FA Cup tie against Wolverhampton and said Liverpool must get back to basics to pick themselves up after last Saturday's 3-0 Premier League defeat to Brighton. "These are football problems and you solve them with football. Playing better football than Brighton shouldn't be that difficult. We have to be compact, we have to defend. The pitch looks too big when we are defending," said the German coach.

He added: "You always go back to basics. From there, you can take steps. All success in football starts with a solid defence, and that's what we have to do again. We have a lot of things to consider, we have two senior strikers available. We have to find solutions, that's what we do almost every day." The Reds are going through a season of disappointing performances, but they are still in the running in the FA Cup and Champions League, and Klopp believes the team does not need a total rebuild. "Too often this season, we didn't play to our potential. That's the truth. We had games that we played very well, but not enough to be successful," he admitted.

"We don't want to turn back the clock, we don't want to start from scratch. It's not from scratch, but we have to start again. The good thing about a long career is that it's not the first time I've had a situation like this," he added. When asked about the possibility of bringing in players in the market, the coach was annoyed: "It must be a language problem that they ask this question over and over again. We look outwards. It's not that we are stubborn and think we will go with these guys until 2050. We don't see it that way, it's all about what you can do and what you want to do."

Klopp will make changes

"It's always every year the same thing. It should be boring on their part, the transfer window at every press conference. I can't change my answers. If solutions for us are available and feasible, of course we would bring in players to help," he added. He concluded: "But we also have an existing squad, and we are definitely underperforming. But I can't sit here all the time and blame everyone else, it's my responsibility that they perform. That's my first concern. Yes, we have limited options, but we have players under contract here, they're just not available. If they are all in, it's a different situation. Our team is not too small. Yes, we have to strengthen, but is this the right time for us to sign? I don't see it.
