Liverpool want a player who is also the Blues' target, but Klopp appears to be closer to him

With Benfica demanding Enzo Fernandez's €120m clause, Chelsea are considering changing their midfield target. In Liverpool's orbit, Brighton's Moises Caicedo could be a low-cost alternative.

Punishment for Enzo Fernandez. The Argentinian was not called up for Benfica's win over Portimonense. However, a move to Chelsea seems unlikely. The Lisbon side are bowing to the termination clause of the Argentine star, set at €120 million. The Londoners do not accept and are looking for a transfer for a lower figure.

At this crossroads, Stamford Bridge have already considered different alternatives to reinforce the midfield. After signing Datro Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Andrey Santos, Chelsea have turned their attention to another young star who took part in the World Cup: Moises Caicedo, Ecuadorian player of Brighton & Hove Albion.

At 21, Caicedo is an undisputed starter under both Graham Potter and Roberto de Zerbi. However, as Paul Barber, CEO of the Seagulls, told Ben Jacobs, the southern club have not received any offers for their star player: "I'm pleased to say we haven't had any. Maybe they (Liverpool) haven't received my e-mail because I haven't seen one.

Despite having been linked with the Reds, Jacobs says Chelsea are the team most interested in Caicedo. But the South American's exit will be expensive, as Barber pointed out: "I'm not sure £42m would include the boots now, maybe just the laces. But joking aside, the value of each player is ultimately determined by the market. Graham's comments were partly in jest, but partly in earnest, because Moses has been an exceptional player for us....". A deal valued at more than €80m.
