Klopp shuts Chelsea up, Liverpool are better, in history and players

German Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp reaffirmed his commitment to Liverpool despite rumours of a possible sale of the club. "What I have read is that they are looking for investment," Klopp said after knocking out Derby County on penalties in the League Cup. "It's a good idea and I like it," the German responded, to a statement from Fenway Sports Group (FSG) in which Liverpool's owners said they were open to selling the club or at least part of it. "But this does not distract me at all. The players haven't asked me about it and it doesn't mean anything. I have a great relationship with FSG. I like the way they work, but if this changes, I have my commitment to the club which has nothing to do with the owners."

Klopp did not want to go into comparisons with the past sale of Chelsea, which was closed at around €5bn and how it led, shortly after, to the sacking of Thomas Tuchel. "The situation is completely different. Chelsea had to sell because their owner was in trouble and it was an emergency situation. That doesn't happen here. These things take time and we have to move on. So far, nothing has happened, it's just news," the German added.

One of the most talked about topics in English football in recent days is the sale of Liverpool. The owners have decided to sell the club and are now waiting for offers to decide whether they will finally leave the English city. In the meantime, the Premiership side must continue to compete for Champions League places in the domestic competition, try to go as far as possible in the cups and prepare for a tough round of 16 in Europe's top competition against their bête noire, Real Madrid.

The players and coaching staff could be unsettled by the situation, but Klopp has come out and said he will stay at the helm no matter what happens to the club: "I really like the way we work together with our owners, but if that changes, obviously I'm committed to the club. We work very closely with FSG (the team's owners), we have a great relationship so far and it won't change whatever happens."

Klopp is committed to Liverpool

The German coach also wanted to make it clear that neither he nor his players will lose focus on the sporting side: "We have to keep going. Not only in terms of football, but also on a day-to-day basis and I will make sure that we do that. It didn't distract the preparation at all. The players didn't ask me but if they want to ask me I can tell them what I think. For me it doesn't mean anything," concluded Klopp, making it clear that the most important thing for them happens on the pitch.
