Liverpool are one of a number of English clubs looking to snap up Sao Paulo's talented central defender Lucas Beraldo on 1 January and are ready to make a bid ahead of Arsenal and Leicester, the other two leading contenders. The Reds are keen to acquire good players in order to stay in the race for the Premier League title.
According to recent reports, Liverpool would be prepared to pay an extraordinary amount of up to 30 million euros for the services of Beraldo, being a fairly high investment by the team managed by Jurgen Klopp, who has been the main advocate for the arrival of the young South American defender, who would have to be seen if he is part of the Gunners squad or if he is sought on loan to gain experience.
Liverpool's willingness to make the move reflects their interest in securing the signing of the talented and promising Beraldo as soon as possible. The move is also evidence of the growing importance that European clubs are placing on the South American market in their search for emerging and promising talent.
As Liverpool look to strengthen their defensive line, they have identified three promising defenders as top targets for the January transfer window, according to sources close to Football Insider. Wolfsburg's Maxence Lacroix, Sporting Lisbon's Gonçalo Inácio and Sao Paulo's Lucas Beraldo are in the Merseyside club's sights. The decision to prioritise a new centre-back intensified following the knee injury suffered by Joel Matip, as revealed by Football Insider last Friday. With the 32-year-old facing months on the sidelines due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster the Reds' rearguard in January.
