After watching Jordan Henderson leave the field with a major muscle injury, coach Jürgen Klopp quickly thought of the 26-year-old Brazilian footballer as a replacement. After his team’s 2-1 win over Newcastle, he called the midfielder directly and convinced him to leave Juventus Turin and reach Anfield before Thursday’s deadline as an important reinforcement for the team.

The captain of the Liverpool was replaced in the 71st minute due to severe muscular discomfort and replaced by veteran James Milner. The match was very difficult for Liverpool who suffered until the end to get the win. A goal in the 98th minute scored by Portuguese rookie Fabio Carvalho gave the Reds victory over a tough Newcastle that defended well during the game played at Anfield.

Arthur Melo spent two years playing for Juventus in Turin after coming from Barcelona. The Goiania-born midfielder played only 63 games and scored a goal for what he could never transcend in Serie A. In Catalonia he also played two years, between 2018 and 2020, taking part in 72 games and scoring four goals, but he didn’t make it either and that’s why he had to leave LaLiga to Spain.

The Brazilian played in his youth with the Gremio of Porto Alegre with 69 games and six goals. He has been part of Brazil’s national team with 22 appearances for five years, but due to his low performance, he is no longer called up by national coach Tité. A few months before the Qatar World Cup, he will try to return to the favourite Scracth du Oro to win the world championship.

The other players injured

Jürgen Klopp signed Arthur Melo to upgrade his squad that suffered the loss of Captain Jordan Henderson for several days. Another injured footballer is Spaniard Thiago Alcantara who has a muscle problem, as well as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who has been absent since July. Finally, the Guinean Naby Keita suffered from a muscular discomfort and will not play for several weeks.
