Liverpool's season has been one to forget, both in sporting and physical terms

Liverpool's season has been a season to forget, both in sporting and physical terms, with injuries having plagued them almost from the start of the season. What's more, 'thanks' to them, a certainty has appeared that should be taken into account in Spain with a view to the knockout round of the Champions League between Liverpool and Real Madrid.

English sources, specifically the Echo, claim that Liverpool are already working against the clock to extend Firmino's contract for another season. We knew that the Brazilian had been leaving Jürgen Klopp's plans even before the departure of Sadio Mané to Bayern Munich, a matter related to the arrival of Luis Díaz, Digo Jota and Darwin Núñez. Theoretically, the latest arrival at Anfield, Cody Gakpo, did not help in this dynamic for a Canarinha nine, who is also out of contract in June, but all that may be changing.

Injuries to the Colombian, the Uruguayan and the Portuguese, together with the fact that Firmino is performing at a high level, have placed the striker before the possibility of staying at least one more season, the 23/24, under the orders of the German coach (they even say two), which seems, according to what they say on English soil, is going in the right direction. Of the attacking midfield, only the Egyptian and star of the team, Mo Salah, and the newcomer Núñez surpass him in minutes on the pitch.

<strong>Firmino is not negotiating with another club</strong>

Salah has accumulated a total of 2,513 minutes on the pitch this season, to Darwin Nunez's 1,447. Firmino has played 1,375 minutes this season, well ahead of Diaz, Jota or, logically, Gakpo. Not only that, the Brazilian is the team's second top scorer with 10 goals, behind only Salah, who has scored 17 this season. It is true that in Liverpool's last five games the player has been missing due to hamstring problems. Echo reports that the English club fears that Firmino is negotiating with another club, but the South American's agent denies this and if nothing goes wrong his renewal could come in the near future, as well as a return to his good minutes on the pitch.
