Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez could be sold to Liverpool and arrive at Anfield early next week.

Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez is on Liverpool's radar and could arrive at Anfield if a deal can be agreed with Benfica. Enzo has scored three goals in seven games for Benfica (from where Darwin Nunez arrived), helping them qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Benfica coach Roger Schmidt admitted they could lose Fernandez after he was linked with a move to Merseyside. Fernandez has been quick to win admirers in European football, but is also complicated by the fact that he has only recently arrived in Portugal from Argentina this season.

Sky Sports' Melissa Reddy claimed Liverpool have kept tabs on the Argentine, despite moving clubs this summer, but manager Schmidt insisted he is not worried about losing the midfielder after recent days of speculation.

Messi's partner

For 2021 Enzo was called up to the Argentina national team for the first time and shared training with Leo Messi, a dream come true for the Argentine who could become his ideal partner at this year's World Cup in Qatar in the expectation that he can first reach the Premier League with Liverpool.

Liverpool are regular buyers in Portugal, with Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez swapping Porto and Benfica respectively for Anfield. In addition, Julian Ward, the Reds' new sporting director, also knows Portugal well from his early days on Merseyside, where he was a European scout with a focus on Spain and Portugal.
