After fulfilling his dream of playing in the World Cup with his national team and becoming MLS champion with Los Angeles FC, Welsh striker Gareth Bale announced his retirement from playing in a press release. This announcement moved many football fans around the world, but little is known about the favour he did for Liverpool before retiring.

It was on his social media that Bale made his decision known, explaining his reasons for leaving the pitch. He was without a team for the time being, as his contract with Los Angeles FC was only for one year, which ended before the World Cup after he was crowned champion. Several rumours had him as a possible signing for Al Nassr to partner Cristiano Ronaldo, but in the end he decided to leave football.

Bale played in the Premier League with Southampton and Tottenham, until his 2009 transfer to Real Madrid in 2013. He was part of the five Champions League titles won by the Spaniards, but in 2020 he left the team to return to Tottenham. In 2022 he left Madrid permanently for MLS.

Last year he arrived as a star reinforcement for Los Angeles FC and although injuries meant he played very little, he managed to play 13 times and scored three goals. The most important was the one in the final against Philadelphia Union to send the match to penalties. He then went to the World Cup with Wales and scored a goal against the United States.

Bale helped Liverpool

For Liverpool fans, Bale is a character to forget. Especially for the final of the Champions League in Kiev in 2018 where he scored a great goal with a bicycle kick that led to the victory of the Spaniards. He also took advantage of a mistake by goalkeeper Loris Karius to seal the win. That was precisely Bale's strange favour to Liverpool, because after those mistakes, Jurgen Klopp deleted Karius and paid millions for Alisson, the Brazilian who is now a star at Anfield. You could say that thanks to Bale, Alisson came to Liverpool.
