Mohamed Salah's future at Liverpool is once again the subject of speculation, with Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal interested in the Egyptian star amid Neymar's potential departure. However, Salah appears to prioritise remaining at Anfield.
Mohamed Salah, a key figure for Liverpool, has long been a target for Saudi Pro League clubs. Back in 2023, the Reds rejected a lucrative offer of around $185 million (£150 million/€180 million) for the forward. Now, with uncertainty surrounding Neymar's future at Al Hilal, Saudi interest is reignited.
According to Spanish outlet AS, Neymar's contract with Al Hilal expires at the end of June this year, and so far, there have been no talks for a renewal. This situation is largely due to the Brazilian's injury record since his arrival in Saudi football. Al Hilal have had to fork out the considerable sum of $58 million (£47 million/€56 million) for each of his meagre seven appearances, adding up his transfer fee and salary.
Faced with this possible departure of Neymar, Al Hilal has set its sights on Salah as his possible replacement. The Saudi club, which already boasts stars such as Kalidou Koulibaly, Malcom, Renan Lodi, Ruben Neves, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Joao Cancelo and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, dreams of adding the Egyptian to its constellation of figures.
However, convincing Salah will not be easy. The forward is in negotiations to extend his contract with Liverpool, and this seems to be his priority. Despite the financial appeal of the Saudi Pro League, Salah continues to perform at an exceptional level in European football and aspires to continue competing at the highest level.
Even in the hypothetical case that Salah does not reach an agreement with Liverpool and becomes a free agent, he is expected to receive numerous offers from top European clubs. His quality and form make him one of the most coveted players on the market.
The possibility of Neymar returning to Santos, his former club, or joining Inter Miami to reunite with Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez is also being considered as possible destinations for the Brazilian.
Salah's future remains linked to Liverpool, at least for the moment. While Al Hilal's interest is real, the player seems focused on continuing his career in Europe, ideally at Anfield. Neymar's possible departure from Al Hilal opens a question mark in Saudi football and generates speculation about possible market moves, but Salah's continuity at Liverpool seems to be the most likely scenario
