Gareth Bale didn't want to join Liverpool and got what he deserved

The Athletic at some point revealed that the scouts of the Reds on Merseyside said they were more interested in Bale than David, quickly seeking a negotiation with the Saints for their player, offering them at that time the letter of Darren Potter who was on loan in exchange for the Welshman, with Southampton half accepting the offer as they wanted a monetary income in addition to Potter, a situation that disinterested Liverpool as they were not at that time willing to release cash for a 16 year old.
