First game of the season against Chelsea is less than 2 weeks away

Our Liverpool's preseason is about to come to an end with only one more game to play before the first Premier League game against Chelsea. Fans' expectations for the new campaign are high, especially considering last season's failure to finish in the top four of the Premier League, which left us out of the next edition of the Champions League.

Since the end of last season, it was speculated that Liverpool would be one of the most active teams during the summer transfer window, as both Jürgen Klopp and the Anfield board have decided to rebuild the squad and prioritize the arrival of young players, particularly in midfield, although Klopp's desire to sign at least one central defender has also been mentioned.

However, the summer has not turned out to be what we expected, as so far, less than two weeks before the start of the Premier League, the Reds have only managed to sign 2 players and instead have seen 12 players leave, whose departures have left a total profit of £52 million. That money, for now, has not helped us to get more reinforcements and although everything indicates that in the end we will have at least one or two more players, it will not be cheap to get them and they may not be ready for the first game of the season against Chelsea, so Jürgen Klopp is already thinking about the players who will start and according to journalist Andy Jones, Klopp will leave a club legend on the bench.

The legend who will remain on the bench

According to Andy Jones, a journalist who covers Liverpool for The Athletic, Klopp has made the decision that Ibrahima Konaté will be the starting center back to partner Virgil van Dijk in the team's lineup for the Premier League opener against Chelsea. This will leave out Joel Matip, who has won everything with the club in the team's last golden era and could see his minutes greatly diminished.
