Jordan Henderson is yet to enjoy a victory with Ajax following his January transfer from Saudi Arabia. Ex-Liverpool skipper Henderson made the move to Holland during the transfer window after a brief spell with Al-Ettifaq. Ajax found itself 3-0 down shortly after half-time in the match and despite a late fightback couldn't find an equalizer, with Henderson again playing the full 90 minutes in a 3-2 loss. It was another chastening experience for the struggling Eredivisie side, particularly in the first half. here had been suggestions that Henderson would be handed the captain's armband for the game with the Mirror reporting he had already impressed with his leadership skills. But regular skipper Steven Berghuis was passed fit to start.

Acting head coach John van 't Schip expressed his disappointment with the result, admitting: "It just wasn't good enough today. We are Ajax and I don't want to complain about referee decisions. We should have done better before in the first place. We need to rise again. Ajax is back in action against Bodø/Glimt in the Europa Conference League on Thursday after dropping out of the Europa League in the group stages. The Dutch side could only manage one win from its six group matches.

Possible new destination

Al-Ettifaq meanwhile, seems to be doing fine after Henderson's departure. Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard appears to think his squad is stronger after Henderson's exit, having been able to strengthen in other key areas. He said: "We've tried to look for certain upgrades that are going to be ready to contribute, to push foreign players for starting spots. The squad, in my opinion, is looking stronger and healthier than it did before." Gerrard's side is currently eighth position in the Saudi Pro League, with their next match this Thursday against Al-Khaleej.
