Liverpool were forced to cancel their training session on Thursday after the team's journey home from London, following their Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham, was disrupted by wintry weather.
Liverpool's journey home following their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final turned into an ordeal due to poor weather conditions. The team, managed by Arne Slot, took off from London shortly after the match, but thick fog at Liverpool John Lennon Airport forced the plane to make an emergency landing in Birmingham.
From Birmingham, a road trip was organised to complete the journey to Liverpool. Due to the late hour when the players finally arrived back in the north-west in the not-so-early hours of Thursday morning, the decision was made to cancel the day's scheduled training session.
This setback comes amidst a run of unfavourable results for Liverpool, who are looking for their first win of 2025 after going two games without a win for the first time since Arne Slot took over at Anfield.
Despite this context, Slot's charges will return to the AXA Training Centre on Friday to prepare for Saturday's encounter with Accrington Stanley in the third round of the FA Cup. The Reds are clear favourites to overcome their opponents, who are currently precariously above the League Two relegation zone.
Despite seeing his side lose for only the second time all season in all competitions, Slot was pleased with some aspects of his team's play against Tottenham. In his post-match press conference, the Dutch manager commented: "We knew when we came here it was never going to be the same game as we played here a week or two weeks ago [when Liverpool recorded a 6-3 Premier League win], but I still saw a lot of the same. I think even in that game the possession was equal, but now I think we had 60 to 40 per cent. There are a lot of good things for me, more than the game against Manchester United, but the result was not as good as against United."
This incident with the flight and the subsequent cancellation of training could cause a minor disruption to Liverpool's preparations for their upcoming FA Cup tie. However, the team are expected to adapt to the circumstances and approach the match with maximum professionalism.
