The departure of Jordan Henderson to the Saudi Pro League left a big hole in our Liverpool, and it was not for less, because after 12 years at the club, Henderson had become an extremely important player for the Reds to the point of becoming the top leader of the dressing room.
As team captain, Henderson lifted every trophy possible during Liverpool's last golden era. Perhaps most memorable of all was the Premier League title that ended a 30-year drought without a league win for our club. Although his last season, on a soccer level, was not so good, Henderson was still the leader of the team and is perhaps the reason why Jürgen Klopp will miss him the most next season.
As if that wasn't enough, this summer we also lost the other great leader that our team had, since before the end of the 2022-2023 campaign, it was determined that it would be the last season of James Milner, who left as a free agent and joined Brighton & Hove Albion after being one of the most important players in Klopp's scheme during the last years.
Now, the German tactician must decide who will be the new leader of the team, and although everything seems to indicate that Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk will be the chosen one, Jürgen Klopp has sent a message that could jeopardize that decision.
The coach of our club has launched a very important message regarding the situation about the new captain of the team, and has advised the players who could aspire to the position. "Nobody has to be the next James Milner or the next Jordan Henderson, they have to be themselves." he said.
