Liverpool know they face a potential title decider against City next month.

Even with a cup final coming next weekend, your eyes can’t help but be drawn towards a certain fixture next month. Liverpool knows its Premier League title fate could well rest on March 10. That is of course the date when Manchester City comes to town.

Who knows what shape the title race will be in by then, but it’s more than likely the overall winner will be decided at Anfield. Coming up against Pep Guardiola’s side is always a daunting prospect. They’ve dominated the English game over the last few years, and without Liverpool they’d almost certainly have more trophies to their name.

What’s more, they have their two game-changers back. Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne are both back to fitness, and if they’re in action at Anfield, chances are they’ll have a big say in the result. That, coupled with Liverpool’s injury problems, with Jürgen Klopp’s list of big-name absentees growing even further after the win over Brentford, all makes for a pretty anxious afternoon when it arrives. But then, maybe the Reds don’t have as much to fear as they usually would.

If City’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea is anything to go by, Liverpool should be feeling confident, even if it’s without some of its biggest names. Mauricio Pochettino’s side showed exactly why the Reds can do some serious damage to the reigning champion.

Owners of the illusion

And the manner in which City toiled for an equalizer will be another concern for Guardiola. Even with the goal-scoring machine that is Haaland in their ranks, it’s not the first time they’ve struggled, Liverpool knows all about that, having nicked a point at the Etihad earlier in the season. That doesn’t mean next month’s meeting at Anfield will be any easier for Liverpool, but the Reds should feel confident of making a telling blow in the title race. And that will be on Guardiola’s mind in the coming weeks.
