The Uruguayan Secured the Win for Liverpool with a Brace

Darwin Núñez Breaks Record in Liverpool’s Victory Over Brentford

Darwin Núñez has now scored the second-most goals in stoppage time for Liverpool in the Premier League.

The No. 9 made an impressive cameo from the bench in the win against Brentford on Saturday, finding the back of the net twice after the 90-minute mark to secure a 2-0 victory for the visitors.

Núñez’s brace brought his total stoppage-time goals in the division to five since joining the Reds in 2022. Ten months ago, the Uruguayan scored the final goal in the club's 1-0 Premier League win over Nottingham Forest, with the clock reading 90+9.

He also netted in the final moments of the 4-0 win over AFC Bournemouth last January, and the second of his brilliant brace against Newcastle United in August 2023 came three minutes after the 90-minute mark.

Only Sadio Mané, with six goals, has scored more stoppage-time goals for Liverpool in the Premier League.

The Senegalese forward marked memorable victories, including goals against Everton (December 2016) and Aston Villa (November 2019).

Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres both achieved the feat five times for Liverpool, while Dirk Kuyt did so four times.

Divock Origi and Luis Suárez each scored three stoppage-time goals during their time at Anfield, and Mohamed Salah has also netted three, including the iconic decisive goal against Manchester United at Anfield five years ago this month.

In total, 38 different players have scored a stoppage-time goal for Liverpool in the Premier League, including the famous goalkeeper Alisson Becker, as well as two own goals.
