Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah was the star of the show as Liverpool thrashed West Ham 5-0 in London, scoring a goal and providing an assist. However, the Egyptian's future at Anfield remains uncertain after he revealed in a post-match interview that a contract extension is "a long way off".
Salah's current deal with Liverpool expires in June 2025 and, despite being one of the club's most important players, there has been no breakthrough in negotiations over a new contract. Manager Arne Slot has publicly expressed his desire to keep Salah at the club for longer, suggesting a two-year extension.
"No, we're a long way from that (a new deal)," Salah told Sky Sports. "I don't want to put anything out there and then people start saying stuff, but really, nothing has really moved. At the moment I'm focused and hopefully we can win the Premier League," Salah said.
The Egyptian's comments have cast doubt over his long-term future at Liverpool. With the club's fans desperate to see Salah stay, the negotiations are far from straightforward.
The Salah saga is set to rumble on in the coming months. Liverpool fans will be hoping that the club can convince their star man to stay, but the situation remains uncertain.
