Liverpool's Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez could be living out his final months at Anfield. According to recent reports, the Reds are open to negotiating his exit in the next transfer window, a move that has already caught the attention of AC Milan.
The attacker, who arrived from Benfica in 2022 for more than 80 million pounds, has had an inconsistent time in the Premier League. Although he showed moments of brilliance, his performances have fallen below expectations. In the current season, Nunez has registered just four goals and three assists in 23 games, figures that raise doubts about his continuity in Jürgen Klopp's scheme.
Milan's interest and their offensive need
AC Milan, in search of more firepower in attack, see Nunez as a solution to their offensive problems. Under the direction of Sergio Conceição, the Rossoneri have struggled to find consistency in the front. With just 26 goals in 17 Serie A games, and figures such as Alvaro Morata performing below expectations, Núñez appears as a possible substitute for the Milan attack.
The Uruguayan's explosive style and physical ability fit the profile that the Italian club is looking for. However, Milan will have to face not only the cost of the transfer, but also doubts about the effectiveness of the player, who has not yet proven to be the goalscorer that was expected.
Liverpool already looking for alternatives
For its part, Liverpool is already working on a plan B in the event of Núñez's possible departure. Names such as Newcastle's Alexander Isak and Inter Milan's Marcus Thuram top the list of possible reinforcements. Both players would be ambitious bets, but would also require large investments.
A new beginning for Núñez?
A move to AC Milan could represent an ideal opportunity for Núñez to relaunch his career and prove his worth in a less demanding environment than the Premier League. With three years left on his contract and a salary of £140,000 a week, his departure would also ease Liverpool's financial burden.
The summer transfer window promises to be key for the Uruguayan's future. Meanwhile, Reds and Rossoneri fans will be keeping a close eye on the next moves in this potentially career-redefining story for Darwin Núñez.
