Arne Slot praised Darwin Núñez's performance after Liverpool's victory

After Liverpool's victory over Brentford, coach Arne Slot couldn't hide his satisfaction with Darwin Núñez's standout performance, as he scored two goals in injury time to secure the three points in the Premier League. Despite not having much playing time this season due to internal competition within the team, the Dutch coach acknowledged the effort and quality of his Uruguayan forward.

In a post-match press conference, Slot commented, "A journalist asked me similar questions before the match about Darwin, and I disagreed with the idea that he hasn't been having a good season. I think he's having a good season, in which he scores goals, works very hard for the team, and assists. But he competes with many good players, which is why he doesn't play every game. But I'm very happy with him, not just because today he scored two goals, but of course, that helps, but I'm also very happy with the other performances he's had with us."

Núñez's goals

Arne Slot also provided his analysis of Darwin Núñez's goals, highlighting his ability to find spaces in complex situations. "The first one was a long buildup, the second was a counterattack. Of course, he can score goals against a low block because he's a forward, and he's also a threat in crosses. Immediately after coming on, he had a good chance when Robbo (Andy Robertson) crossed it."

The coach also expressed pride in his team's overall performance, even though the victory was achieved in the final minutes of the match. "If we hadn't scored today in the last five minutes, the headlines would have said that Liverpool dropped points again, and no one would have mentioned that there were 37 shots on goal. How many teams could make 37 shots on goal against Brentford in a match? And now that we scored two goals, it's likely that a lot of attention will be given to that fact."

With this win, Liverpool maintains its position at the top of the Premier League, and Darwin Núñez's performance could mean a shift in his role within the team, with more opportunities in upcoming matches.
