One of the great sadnesses for Liverpool fans, and boy have we had some in recent years, has been the departure of Sadio Mané who a year ago decided to leave Anfield to join FC Bayern after winning everything with England's biggest club.
Mané surprised everyone: fans, teammates and even Jürgen Klopp himself when he decided to leave the team to go to Germany with the Bundesliga's top team. However, regrets came early for the Senegalese as he never managed to adapt to his new team and quickly Bayern fans and the German press branded his signing as a failure, especially since he was one of the best players in the world when he arrived.
Bayern and Sadio Mané's season was far from the initial expectations, as the team was eliminated at a very early stage of the Champions League and was also on the verge of losing its hegemony in the Bundesliga with a dramatic definition in which Borussia Dortmund could not be crowned champion. All this generated an atmosphere of tension and uncertainty within Bayern, and Mané was one of the main culprits blamed for the failure.
Now, with a new coach, Bayern wants to get rid of Sadio Mané and according to Fabrizio Romano there is already an agreement between the German club and Al-Nassr to sign Mané, and it has even been said that the player himself has already accepted a hefty salary offer that will make him the second highest paid player at the club only behind Cristiano Ronaldo. It was certainly not the end that many expected for the European career of Sadio Mané, who knows that he could still have performed at the highest level of football.
Sadio Mané confessed to journalist Florian Plettenberg that he regrets having to leave Bayern as he believes he still had a lot to contribute to the club. "Leaving FC Bayern hurts me. I would have wished for a different ending. I know that I could have helped the team this season. I wanted to prove it to everyone this season. Nevertheless, I only wish the club and the fans the best for the future," he said.
It seems that the best version of Mané has been left in the past, since his departure from Liverpool he could not show the level that once led him to be considered one of the best players in the world.
