With yet another edition of the UEFA Champions League having come to an end, it is impressive to note how in recent years there has been a clear dominance by Premier League sides, with Liverpool, Chelsea and now Manchester City winning three of the last five editions, with English clubs dominating Europe's top competition.
But even though these institutions have shown character on the pitch, Liverpool have unfortunately suffered the most, and not so much for failing to advance, but rather for being one of the most inconsistent title contenders whenever they have to face teams of the same or higher level of play, with Real Madrid being their biggest fear in recent years, having already lost a couple of finals against Los Merengues.
Someone who could corroborate these adverse situations that Liverpool sometimes face was former player Gareth Bale, who not long ago revealed that in the 2018 final they were able to get the win through the Merseyside side's nervousness, a situation that they showed on the pitch, with Mohamed Salah's injury being a determining factor that demoralised them and led them to make mistakes such as Kharius who gave Benzema the 1-0 lead in the 50th minute. Some of them were having trouble sleeping, they were nervous and we were like it was just another game.
Despite being dominated by the nervousness that led them to lose two of their last three Champions League finals, the fact that the Reds will not be present in the next edition of this competition, makes UEFA have serious repercussions by not being one of the biggest representatives of England fighting for the title, taking the Europa League today the visibility of Merseyside who seek to conquer a title they have not won since 2001, looking for the Reds in turn a rematch of that 2016 final where they were defeated by Sevilla.
