One of Jurgen Klopp's transfer requests is starting to pay off for the Reds. Before the end of the transfer window, Jurgen Klopp was extremely vocal in calling for the signing of Ryan Gravenberch for Liverpool. The Dutch midfielder was previously at Bayern Munich, where he played very few minutes in the season, and now with the Reds he has just scored his first goal. The Europa League match was proving difficult for Liverpool as they outplayed Swiss side Union Saint-Gilloise, but could not find a way to open the scoring. A disallowed goal and an uncharacteristically missed chance by Darwin Nunez had been the highlights before the 21-year-old midfielder came on.

The Uruguayan Darwin fired in a mid-range shot that stung in front of goalkeeper Moris, who was unable to hold it at first attempt and left a short rebound, which Gravenberch sought out before anyone else and thankfully arrived alone to open the scoring. It was 40 million euros that Liverpool paid for the midfielder who had deputised for Goretzka and Kimmich at Bayern Munich, but in whom Klopp saw something special and asked for him. With this result, Liverpool remain top of Group E in this UEFA Europa League, having won their opening game against LASK and now repeat at home to Anfield.

Liverpool beat Union Saint-Gilloise 2-0 on the second day of the Europa League group stage. The star player was Dutchman Ryan Gravenberch. On the stroke of half-time, a mistake by Union Saint-Gilloise goalkeeper Anthony Moris when he failed to catch a long-range shot left the ball loose for Ryan Gravenberch to tap in his first goal for the English side (2-0) as they cruised to their second win in two Europa League Group E fixtures, led by the Reds, two points clear of Toulouse.

The new record

The goalkeeper, previously key to holding the 0-0 scoreline, missed the 1-0 scoreline that made the difference on the scoreboard with Gravenberch's first Liverpool goal in his fifth clash since his 40 million euro transfer from Bayern Munich. The shot he did not save was from Trent Alexander-Arnold. It was a centred shot. It just evaded him. In the 92nd minute, Diogo Jota put the game to bed. Ryan Gravenberch has been involved with a goal or assist in his first three starts for the club. Something that hasn't happened since Milan Baros in 2002.
