The signing of several football stars to the Saudi Arabian league has ensured that the 2023/24 season of the AFC Champions League promises to be one of the most media-rich in its history and also one of the best. Players such as Sadio Mane, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kanté, among others, will be watching the prestigious Asian tournament that brings together the best teams in the continent. Obviously, Al Hilal (Neymar), Al Ittihad (Benzema) and Al Nassr (Mane) are favourites to win the title from the west.

However, they are not the only serious contenders to be crowned champions, as there are some Japanese and South Korean teams that also have considerable power such as: Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, Yokohama Marinos, Incheon United, or the current champions Urawa Red Diamonds.  The 40 teams that make up the Asian Champions League will be playing against each other in the hope of winning and reaching the final, which will be played over two legs on 11 and 18 May 2024; the winner of the season will have the added bonus of a place at the Club World Cup to be held in 2025 in the United States.

According to various reports, the earnings of teams in Asia would be capped at up to $3 million if they reach the final and become champions, so Senegal's Sadio Mane could be part of that prize if he helps Al Nassr break through and repeat what he achieved in 2019 with Liverpool when they won the Champions League by beating Tottenham in the final.

Salah's gain

Liverpool open their Europa League campaign on Thursday with a trip to LASK Linz, aiming to be in contention for a place in the final and a chance to challenge for the title. With Mohamed Salah as the star player, Liverpool will want to win the prize money; however, there are several teams that qualify for the competition and, depending on the stage they reach, they receive different amounts of money. Round of 16 500,000, Round of 16 1.2 million, Quarter-final 1.8 million, Semi-final 2.8 million, Final 3.6 million, Champion 4 million.
