Jürgen Klopp said on Friday that Anfield is a "nightmare" for opponents. Liverpool's stadium has once again become a fortress for the Reds, with a perfect record of ten wins in as many appearances this season. Remarkably, Liverpool have not lost at home in any competition since their UEFA Champions League defeat to Real Madrid in February, and domestically they have not stumbled since October last year. In that time, they have dropped just six points in the Premier League, with a run of 18 wins and three draws.
"It's our home, it must be a difficult place for the opponents," Jürgen Klopp said of Anfield. "I said to the lads (before the LASK game), I think for every player, if he doesn't play for Liverpool and plays in a different country, playing at Anfield is a dream. But in reality it must be a nightmare and that's what we tried to do. It didn't always work, but when our fans are behind us, it makes a big difference," he added.
Liverpool will look to extend their run of consecutive wins at home to Fulham on Sunday. The Reds currently sit third in the Premier League with 28 points, two behind leaders Arsenal. "It's great, but I think the best thing is not to think about any winning streak. We just can't think about that because the next game is very important, very different and very difficult," said Jürgen Klopp.
This comment could be taken as a mockery of Pep Guardiola because at a press conference almost simultaneously with Klopp's, the Manchester City manager called for the Citizens' fans to come to the Etihad Stadium for Sunday's game against Tottenham. On other occasions Guardiola has also called for the fans not to be so cold, unlike Klopp who always joins the fervour of the Anfield crowd with his celebrations.
