Alexis Mac Allister was back in the starting line-up for Liverpool in the Premier League. After his stunning goal against Fulham last weekend, the former Boca and Argentinos star was once again handed a starting berth by German coach Jürgen Kloop. And the welcome he received at Sheffield Wednesday was anything but friendly. What happened?
Only four minutes into the first half when, in the middle of the visitors' attack, the Reds' 10 (wearing a purple shirt) was fouled by midfielder Hamer. He scraped him pretty hard. And Brazilian Vinicius Costa, just as Alexis was going down, also left his right leg outstretched and there was a scrape. The Argentinian was left lying on the ground with clear signs of pain and, despite the complaints of his Liverpool team-mates, the referee did not even caution the offender.
Fortunately, despite the heavy tackle, Mac Allister was able to continue on the pitch. However, 10 minutes into the second half, the midfielder (with a bandage on his left knee) felt discomfort and had to ask to be substituted. To be alarmed? He walked off under his own steam despite the inconvenience. And then he posted a message on Instagram: "Everything is fine. I had a few stitches, but I'm going to recover soon. We're still going strong. Let's go Liverpool.
However, there was an image circulating on social media that may have Liverpool fans worried as Alexis Mallister had a disgruntled look on his face as he approached German manager Jurgen Klopp, which could indicate the player's concern about his future. It is not known at this stage how long he could be out of action.
