Cristiano Ronaldo's tears after Portugal's quarter-final exit to Morocco in the Qatar 2022 World Cup quarter-finals swept the globe. The image of defeat and with an air of farewell - at least from his national team - contrasted with the star who is usually seen with his head held high, breaking records with his goals, winning titles and ratifying why he is one of the best footballers in history. However, from the intimate environment of the 37-year-old Portuguese striker there was a sign of a possible farewell and not goodbye.

This is the former footballer Miguel Paixão, whose link with CR7 goes back to the time of the youth. The businessman generated a strong relationship with Cristiano and was close to him for the last 20 years all over the world. On his Instagram account, he left an emotional message and stated that the tournament that will end this weekend in the Middle East will not be a "farewell" to the Portuguese striker from major competitions, and stressed that the "story continues".

As he left the field, the teen shook his head, prompting questions about his physical condition

Liverpool is thought to be one of the "front-runners" to sign Jude Bellingham next summer

With a photo of the pair as teenagers, he wrote: "When we met, more than 20 years ago, we could never have dreamed when we were sharing a room in that humble old Lisbon residence, what the future had in store for you. Reaching the top of the world again and again, filling our country with glory and Portuguese pride. Cristiano Ronaldo, 37, played in his fifth World Cup and was unable to realise his ambition in Qatar. Although at international level he won Euro 2016 with his team in France, where they beat the home side 1-0 in the final at the Stade de France.

In the middle of this World Cup farewell was the controversy with coach Fernando Santos who sent him to the substitutes' bench in the last two matches and he was unable to score. He played a key role against Morocco, although it was too late to turn the tide against the Africans, who became the first team from that continent to reach the semi-finals.

Cristiano analyses offers

The leagues in the Old World will restart once the World Cup is over and we will have to see if there are any alternatives for Cristiano Ronaldo in the European winter transfer market. Another way forward would be a multi-million euro offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr for 200 million euros a year for two seasons. Of course, agreeing to the Saudi Arabian club's proposal would mean leaving football's elite. The answer is for CR7, who for the moment will spend a few days with his family and will have to analyse what will become of his future. Another of the options that the local media is handling is the possibility of joining Liverpool.
