Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insisted today that he is not worried about keeping his job despite mounting pressure on him after back-to-back defeats in the wake of one of the Red Devils' worst seasons in recent memory. After losses to Bournemouth (0-3) and Bayern Munich (0-1) left them sixth in the Premiership and out of European competition, United could see their situation worsen further on Sunday when they visit Anfield to face current leaders Liverpool.
"No, there is no concern," Ten Hag assured today's pre-match press conference. "Because I'm here to win and I have to make the team play better; and if you play well, it's not even enough. Now we are not consistent, so I have to work on that," stressed Ten Hag, convinced that "the team will play for longer periods at a high level". Despite the fact that the two teams are on totally opposite dynamics, the United boss is optimistic ahead of the derby against Liverpool: "We will put together a team that can compete. I'm confident I can put together a team that can win there.
Although many are writing him off due to United's chaotic season so far, Ten Hag believes that "in the long term, the future of Man United is very good. If you see how many good players we have in the squad, how many good young players we have in the squad, who have the potential to play all over the world, when the injured players come back, the team will play better," the Dutch manager added.
With Liverpool's victory imminent in Sunday's game, all eyes are on Dutch coach Erik Ten Hag and what his future could be. Several names are already circulating to replace him, but what is a fact is that Ten Hag once the game is over he will be thinking about the team's next game on Saturday 23 December against West Ham.
