The Frenchman could be crowned world champion on Sunday if he beats Argentina in the final

The Qatar 2022 World Cup flew by. And it had to, slipped into the middle of the European club season. It's hard to believe that the tournament started 26 days ago and that so much has happened in that time, including whittling a field of 32 teams down to two: France and Argentina.

Many expected France, the defending champions, to be here. But after Argentina's shock defeat by Saudi Arabia in their opener, their comeback to reach their second World Cup final in eight years is more surprising. But when your team has Lionel Messi, can we be surprised that the Albiceleste are in contention for a major trophy?

Liverpool will soon have to deal with a challenge

Final matchup before the start of domestic football competition following the World Cup

This is perhaps the most important individual showdown we've ever had in a World Cup final. Two world-class superstars... and also club team-mates at PSG, which adds to the drama. Messi, the greatest footballer of all time, against Kylian Mbappé, heir to his crown.

For Messi, this would be the perfect fairytale ending to a World Cup run that has, so far, been full of disappointments - from early eliminations to the 2014 final defeat to Germany. For Mbappé, it would be another historic achievement. At 23, he would become the second-youngest player to win back-to-back World Cups, after the legendary Brazilian star Pele.

Liverpool to earn 1.4 million

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté is expected to play for France. Konaté, who is a Liverpool player and part of the Reds' squad in Qatar, helped the Anfield side acquire a large fee of £1.4million for the Frenchman, who is expected to receive around £1.4million. Liverpool stand to receive about £1.55 million from FIFA for their 7 players involved at the World Cup in Qatar.
