Manchester City's Norwegian striker Erling Haaland showed his generosity by pledging to cover the travel costs for around 200 fans of his former boyhood club Bryne FK. The gesture of solidarity is aimed at enabling the team's supporters to travel to and attend the crucial playoff match, where Bryne have the chance to be promoted to the Eliteserien, Norway's top division, for the first time since 2006.
These times are hard for people financially, so it is more difficult for people to travel to games like this. This initiative gives more people the possibility to travel,'' Bjorn Hagerud Roken, Bryne's marketing director, told TV 2. Haaland, 23, came up through the youth ranks at Bryne FK before being promoted to the first team in 2016. His meteoric career took him to various big-name European sides, but his connection to Bryne remains strong.
Bryne FK, with the boost provided by their international star, are looking for a long-awaited promotion to Norwegian football's top flight, the Eliteserien. But now the striker has to concentrate on Saturday's game when Manchester City take on Liverpool in the most important game of the Premier League matchday in which the top of the table is at stake.
