Mixed martial arts fighter and former lightweight and welterweight champion Conor McGregor has expressed an interest in buying Premier League side Liverpool, despite being a Manchester United fan. The current owners of the most recent Champions League finalists, issued a statement to announce that they are looking for investors, after news broke that they were looking to sell the English club.

Through social media, he stated that he would like to and has even asked for information. "I would love to (buy Liverpool). I asked for information about it, yes, as soon as I heard. What a turn of events, what a club," the UFC fighter wrote on Twitter. McGregor has said on multiple occasions that he is a loyal Manchester United fan and has even said he would like his son to share his love for the Red Devils.

"I was attracted to the success and winning mentality of the club and the people that surround United. Irish legends like Denis Irwin and Roy Keane were dedicated to their craft and had that winning mentality. Roy Keane was one of the greatest midfielders European football has ever seen. Opponents were already beaten mentally before they even stepped on the pitch to face him," McGregor added.

A Twitter user commented on one of McGregor's posts 'Buy Liverpool FC' to which the Irishman replied 'I'd love to'. Subsequently, the former UFC champion claimed that 'as soon' as he heard about the possible sale of the 'Reds' he asked for 'information about it' and finally added 'What a turn of events, what a club'.
