When Cody Gakpo was announced as Liverpool's new player in December, many could not understand why the team concentrated more on signing an attacker than a midfielder, making it clear that trying to solve the offensive deficiencies does not make sense if in midfield there is not an element capable of making his partner in the last area shine, causing the Dutchman to have very poor performances that surely make Klopp think that once again they missed the mark with a signing.

Just as there was much talk about Darwin Nunez and which players of lesser or equal cost would have done better in attack, with Gakpo something similar is happening at the moment but not comparing him with other players in his position, but rather with several midfielders who cost the same as the Dutchman and who would surely be giving a facelift to a Liverpool team that is still in despair.

With £42m in hand, the two big options to bolster the midfield were Matheus Nunes and Nordin Amrabat, the Portuguese's performances at Wolverhampton and the Moroccan's at the World Cup in Qatar where he finished fourth after losing to Croatia, both a big attraction that Liverpool let go to secure a young Dutch attacker who cannot yet make a difference with so few Premier League appearances and an unsettled squad.

Gakpo looking forward to summer transfer window

With very little time to adapt and with a heavy load of responsibilities at Liverpool, Cody Gakpo has been overwhelmed by the situation at all times and is already looking forward to having a couple of new partners in the near future to help him stand out and shine in attack, with Amrabat, Nunez, Bellingham or Kante a light that the Dutchman intends to make the most of in order to justify a purchase that to this day seems a little unnecessary.
